Sample question

Under IRDAI's POSP guidelines, what is the maximum sum assured a POSP can sell for a term life insurance product?

A₹25 lakh
B₹50 lakh
C₹1 crore
DNo upper limit
Explanation: IRDAI's POSP guidelines allow Point of Sale Persons to sell simple term life insurance products with a maximum sum assured of ₹50 lakh. Products above this threshold require a fully licensed agent.

What a POSP can sell

IRDAI restricts POSPs to simple, standardised products. These are the six categories:

Term life insurance (up to ₹50L sum assured)
Motor insurance (private car & two-wheeler)
Health insurance (standard individual plans)
Personal accident insurance
Home insurance (standard products)
Travel insurance

About the POSP certification

Who should get it

Anyone who wants to sell insurance products part-time or full-time without a full IC38 licence. Common among banking staff, micro-entrepreneurs, and first-time agents entering the industry.

How it works

Complete 15 hours of mandatory training with your insurer, then pass a short online exam set by the insurer under IRDAI guidelines. Shorter than IC38 but covers POSP-specific regulations and product types.

POSP vs IC38

IC38 gives you a broader licence to sell any insurance product. POSP is restricted to the 6 simple product types listed above. Many agents start with POSP and later clear IC38 for a full licence.
